Story Retelling

Students read a short story appropriate for their level and retell it in German. The stories reflect the theme of the State German Convention. Contestants have plenty of time to read their selections in a separate room before presenting their oral summaries to the judges. Dictionaries and vocabulary lists are not permitted, but in some situations at beginning levels the reading selection may have a limited German to English glossary. Students are judged on plot, fluency, grammatical accuracy and pronunciation.
